It was a few days ago that she realized something wasn't right. Her regulars remained but there were new faces that persistently started showing up. They'd order a drink apiece and spend an hour or more drinking it before leaving and then another person would enter and the same deal would happen. In a big city that wouldn't be seen as weird, but she lived in Post Apoc DC where the entire shelf of the Zone populated around 50 million spread out from DC to Maine. The local bar she worked at wasn't even that popular, it was a hole in the wall on a backstreet that maybe got a hundred different visitors a day, which was a lot but compared to the thousands Club Z got it was small.
So these new familiar faces, the ones who were always the same kept showing up, they'd swap out randomly but without fail she noticed a pattern and it always involved the same people. She never treated them any differently but they acted like she wasn't anything special, which was a lie, the regulars came to this bar to see her usually. Sure her co-workers were entertaining but she was the busty broad with the bubbly personality and the exotic bartending tricks. All of the regulars loved her, Chris and Grace pretty much only came on nights she was working when they went out, she hadn't seen them since they were on the news for an assassination attempt, it was kind of unsettling to think that two of her regulars were capable of that. Regardless, she assume those familiar faces that kept showing up were waiting for them in case they showed up at one of their regular stops.
Oh, I didn't mention, Sarah works at a bar known as the Dungeon, it was truly a hole in the wall but it's theme was more on the gothic side with the location having a medieval theme to it. The previous inhabitants were found in the cellar before its restoration, they had apparently committed suicide by shotgun. Miss Mary took over the business after retiring from her life as a Bounty Killer, she figured her fame alone would draw in a large crowd, but five years later and people barely remembered her when the new breed of Bounty Killers arrived to the scene with Zer0 becoming the biggest man in the BK scene current. His accolades pushed past BKs to the back burner, Spencer and Mary were simply forgotten. That didn't stop her however, she grew to enjoy a modest and quiet life. The money was still good considering the diehard Bounty Hunters made sure to drink there to support someone they still remembered as a legend. This also alienated the crowd, Club Z was BOW approved, the suppressed went there without fear of losing their lives and the BOW Bounty Killers made it their stop as well. All BOWs avoided the Dungeon because of the men and women who drank there.
“Mary I’m cashing out for the night,” Sarah said loudly over the music.
“Alright, be safe,” Mary replied, her signature scars told many stories, the cross on her face was made of two scars, one that had nearly split her head in half from a mutated Nemesis Model, she had to have reconstructive surgery on the bridge of her nose from that one. The other nearly took her eye and for a few months everything she drank seeped out of the deep slash on her cheek. Yet she was still stunningly beautiful.
Sarah on the other hand was smooth skinned, brown haired, large busted, pale, shapely but hadn't worked out a day in her life. She was adored for her girl next door looks and personality, some lived her for the low cut shirts though. She grabbed her jacket and purse after counting down her drawer and headed out the front door leaving Mary and the other worker there. She was walking a good while before she noticed someone following her, she recognized their face from the glance she took, it was one of the newer regulars. She thought of running but didn't want to draw suspicion to herself. She wasn't watching where she was walking when she bumped into him stumbling but he caught her and kept her on her feet.
“I’m so sorry, I wasn't watching where I was walking,” She said quickly and flustered before looking at him and realizing who she was talking to.
“Hey sugar,” he replied in his Aussie accent, it was Shawn Serroth, the number two Bounty Killer behind Zer0, he was a legend for his accomplishments following the death of his twin brother Spencer, “he bothering you?”
“Creeping me out, I don't want him to follow me home,” Sarah replied.
“Go on, get going love, I’ll make sure he doesn't follow you,” Shawn said and put his hand on the hilt of the sword at his waist.
She smiled and walked around him, “shots on me next time you come visit me.”
“Holdin’ ya to it,” he replied and began walking toward the man. She turned the corner and began heading home without looking back even once.
