Sinners & Saints is set in a near future city, Saint City. People come to Saint City for an opportunity to become great. Regardless of their professions they're all the same, trying to become a legend in their field. Bounty Hunters, Demon Hunters, even your hot dog vendor on the side of the road. A city of fifty million working its own eco system, founded on the blood of the Seraphim Accord, host to violence, demons, strip clubs and the occasional church, it is here people come to live for a while before they die a legend.
"Looks like we're going to be having guests..." He muttered, "I'm going dark. We're almost in the zone." He pressed a button on his earpiece and looked around. The final stretch wasn't too far, the cops weren't searching this far. However by the time they made it back to the abandoned zone he looked at his watch, then up to the sky dipping into one of the closest run down buildings that would give him enough cover from any satellite surveillance. He motioned for Alice to do the same, hopefully she wasn't reckless enough not to. Maintaining as little surveillence as possible and not being tracked back to the penthouse was the biggest reason he'd been successful in evading capture and detection thus far.
Alice dipped into cover and moved along with him, she wasn't much for conversation at the moment, her current goal was getting to safety so that she could formulate a plan. She already had her first step in mind, she was going to find answers and then the hunt for Birkin would begin or Ocelot, she wasn't entirely sure which one she wanted to kill first just yet. At the moment she was gathering her wits and piecing together one thing after another, she needed to reconnect with JW, Harker and Big Boss from there it would only be a matter of time working down the line to get to her smaller assets and the army.
The problem was not knowing who Umbrella had gotten to. The world had changed making it far easier for them to get into the lives of others now. Generations had grown and people had established relationships, it was only a matter of time before another Barry Burton incident happened putting everyone at risk. She assumed this is what had gotten into James Anderson.
"Not much further." He replied, waiting until his watch beeped, letting him know that it was clear for him to move. He turned off his watch and moved, leading her to the outside of the penthouse and rendezvousing with Sarah. He walked into the building and into the Penthouse, of course he went first, "I've brought guests, try not to laser them to death." He called out as the lights came back on. He unzipped his vest and grabbed the shirt he was originally wearing off of the ground, trading out what he was wearing on his upper body and setting the vest on the table. He finally turned towards Alice, "We need to talk." He motioned towards the display letting the video of the interrogation play out again. This time bracing himself for what he was going to hear.
"Adam, don't jump to conclusions, you haven't seen the one I mentioned," Grace said appearing in the room. Alice and Sarah both stared at her and she lowered her head, "Hello Alice, Sister."
"You've got to be kidding me," Alice said.
"I'm not, Amy made this as a fail safe. I have no memories following but I have all of her memories and experiences prior to this," Grace informed, "I am a synthetic intelligence."
"So," Sarah began, "theoretically Amy Grace isn't dead dead... Just..."
"Amy Grace is dead," Grace said definitely, "please, pay attention."
The display played out another of Chambers interrogation scenes between him and James Anderson...
“Okay, after our last discussion you informed me of Alice’s involvement. Turns out she’s been kidnapped,” Chambers began.
“Our last discussion ended with a bullet in my eye,” Anderson yelled.
“It did, do you remember why,” Chambers asked.
“I just fucking laughed you asshole,” Anderson yelled once again.
Chambers pulled a chair up and stepped away.
“Sit,” he ordered. James Anderson sat down in the chair, as soon as he looked up at Chambers he was hit straight in the face knocked out of the chair.
“WHAT THE FUCK,” he screamed holding his face.
“Sit,” Chambers ordered again, this time Anderson was slower to comply but still sat in the chair.
“I didn’t want you to get too comfortable. Now let's start from where we left off,” Chambers was wiping blood off his hands, “how did Alice know about what was coming next?”
There was silence at first from James but he looked up, “she didn’t know what was coming next, but it was always a thought in the back of her mind. She trusted me and I betrayed her because the screws were being tightened on me. I gave her information that was too good to be true but how could she pass up the chance to kill William Birkin?”
“She couldn’t that’s why she sent her best after him but even then, how did you get her to send Adamska?”
“I didn’t have to put my hands in that, he made sure to put himself there. Alice trusted him more than me, they were working together for fucks sake. Ocelot was there because he knew he could help. Turns out he was just another Mole put in place by Himura.”
“So, Alice’s involvement wasn’t that she knew she killed Amy before ordering it, only after it had happened,” Chambers said.
“Exactly,” Anderson said, “she got sloppy with her information and trusted the wrong people.”
“I liked it better when she just lied to us and didn’t trust any of us,” Chambers said pulling out his pistol, "at least then we were all still alive.”
He shot Anderson in the head who was about to yell out. The video was cut from there.
Finally Alice spoke up, "I didn't give any orders for Amy to be killed, I followed through with a lead that Birkin was operating in New York and relayed the information up the chain. I lost contact with Amy after she deployed she began using another channel than the Wonderland one."
Grace was looking Sarah up and down, Sarah finally looked at her and squinted her eyes, "Sorry."
Alice continued, "It wasn't a matter of getting sloppy, the information network went down and Amy began taking information from another source. Her involvement extends far from my reaches even if you all want to believe that I have my hand in every channel. I was good at this, Amy was better. Something else happened. Is there anything else Chambers has for us?"
Grace chimed in, "no that was the last thing he sent, he's sent other documents along with the first video and second video both detailing assets that I... Amy was using but nothing conclusive just yet."
"Is there a way to get me directly connected to Chambers?"
"No," Grace replied.
"Amy, I need-" Alice stopped and shook her head, "never mind. Adam, I need to know who you've come into contact with, dead or alive, since you've gotten here."
He moved to the fridge, grabbing a few beers and passing them out as he opened his and meandered around the room. Listening to and watching the recording, feeling a small glee and satisfaction from the things that were being done to that Anderson person. So she wasn't directly responsible... He took a drink and thought a few things over before replied. "In Washington I ran into Sears' double and Whisper. Since then I haven't really spoken to anyone. Chambers just started sending me information." He moved over to the couch and leaned against the arm of it. "To be fair I'm not interested in re-establishing networks, or reconnecting with contacts, and collecting data." He sipped his beer, "I'm interested in burning down everything they have and slaughtering everyone responsible."
"Good," Alice replied, "so we'll work on getting things back running again because you're not going to get very far by just walking into locations and shooting everyone you think is an Umbrella employee. Good work so far, but all you've done is make yourself a public enemy and a target."
Sarah took the beer handed to her, the top of it just popped off without her touching it and she caught it tossing it onto the counter, she took a drink from her beer and the Grace AI approached her again.
"Okay, what do you want," Sarah asked finally fed up with being stared at.
"You're really Sarah Grace, A-G-02," Grace asked.
"Yes, why?"
"The last time we saw you you almost killed me and Adam and then you just vanished through the streets of New York. What happened to you," Grace asked.
"I grew up," Sarah replied, "god it's fucking giving me the creeps is there any way to turn her off?"
"Stop," Alice told Sarah, "the AI is just a Ghost, let her be. She's our ace in the hole."
"Our?" He held up his hand for a moment. "Wait a minute, If you're going to go through and try and get all your old connections back then I'm out. Every time you repeat the same mistakes and have some justification for it." There was a little bit of heat growing in his voice as he began. "Every time you do this, we die. Hell, you fucking threw in with Occelot. The same fucker that was a part of the task force that nearly wiped us out in Raccoon." He motioned towards the screen, "You just heard it too, there's hardly any chance that all of your old networks and contacts through Wonderland aren't all compromised. So far we know Chambers is helping but even then we don't have any proof he isn't playing sides too." He paused an shook his head, "No, if you want to go back and repeat your mistakes for a fourth time, it's insane and stupid, and if you're going to go through with it then you're on your own."
"Adam, do you remotely even know what you're talking about," Alice asked him actually questioning him like a grown man rather than a child for once, "do you understand what it takes to build a network? You don't just go back to what you know. You don't just grab familiar people, why do you think you and Amy got shut out? Why do you think Chambers works for GENTEC? Do you have any earthly idea on how to do anything other than murder things and be given orders?"
Grace piped up, "Adam, she's not wrong. You're only looking at the small failures and none of the success we've made from this."
"Ocelot was thrown into the mix because Sears trusted him, he joined with Big Boss and obviously deceived us all, not just me but to think that was my failure when I wasn't running that show just goes to show the bias you have against me," Alice said, "if you want out, there's the door, I'm done treating you like a child, grow the fuck up or go get yourself killed fighting a one man war against Umbrella."
"No it's not just you Alice, it's everyone and everything. Every snake, every resistance group." He didn't raise his voice, he didn't need to, his facial expression was enough to tell what was going on in his head. "Every time it's the same damn thing when people like Sears, and you, and Hellsing step back up to the plate. High casualty cost and minimal results." He took a slow breath, "At least I'm getting results that actually matter. Which is more than anyone else can say."
"Results? You've killed some grunts on the ground and just put your face in the camera for the whole world to know you're going to kill more of them, if that's results then yes you've done it, bravo Adam," Alice said, she hadn't been this fired up in a while, she took a deep breath in and popped off the top of her beer and took a long hard drink from it setting down half a beer, she turned from the table and leaned on it crossing her arms, "okay, let's start over..."
"Thank god, I was getting tired of hearing you two argue," Sarah said holding up Amy's rifle aiming it out the window getting a lay of the land.
"Look, Adam, you've been out of the picture but our biggest asset right now is Outer Haven, Big Boss took out Albert and Alex Wesker in a joint operation with Amy's group. I'm not getting myself involved with them but they are definitely on my radar. I think the best starting spot to getting to the bottom of this is to tear apart Amy's inner contact group, everyone she was involved with and worked with. There is a leak somewhere and we both know it isn't her and it wasn't Chris."
"What about Leon Kennedy or Jack Napier," Sarah asked.
"No idea, but if we locate them then we've got two of her circle," Alice said.
"I exposed them and got them out in the open which is more than anyone has been able to do in years." He stopped talking and just drank his beer, when things did eventually cool off he listened to what she was going on about. That was going to be his next course of action after he had finished up with that building. As much as he didn't want to admit it, the facility and everyone he took down in it were more personal than professional. He took another drink from his beer, "Grace." He finally spoke up, "Do the thing."
"It's not a magic trick Adam," Grace said, "Leon is going to be extremely hard to find, he's an off the grid kind of guy and probably one of the most deadly non-BOW's alive. I don't know much about Jack but if we can get a picture or any kind of information on him I can start following up leads."
"Bad Idea." He replied walking towards the fridge as he finished of his beer. He opened the fridge and grabbed another one for himself. "The guy isn't exactly known for his hospitality." He popped the cap off of the beer and took a sip before moving to his laptop and he started typing. "Also he wasn't very low-key about his hate boner for you... or anyone else." On his end of the screen he started pulling up files and sending them to Grace. Picking up the laptop he made his way over to the couch and sat down, his eyes scanning whatever he was reading while drinking his beer.
"That being said, he is the owner of GENTEC and MEDTEC," Sarah informed Adam, "he's taken on Spencer Harkers role after assassinating him."
"I'm with Adam on this one," Alice said, "if he has it out for me still then there's no telling how far he might go to put me away if he's sure it's the real me."
"What about Chambers, he works for GENTEC," Grace said.
"He's also using an old school Hellsing channel to relay information to you, I don't think he's the right person to speak to Arix for us, it seems he's trying to keep his stuff under wraps," Sarah said.
Alice paced the room thinking of what assets she had left. Surely Nine was looking for her by now or had just taken over her role like she had been threatening to do for the last week. LJ was still in Raccoon so he was out. At this moment she was wishing Carlos was still around, he might be able to point her in the right direction. Things were easier back then. She wondered what Seven would have done in this situation...
He looked up from his laptop for the briefest of moments he thought about saying something hurtful, instead he just took a drink. He looked between Alice and Sarah, he remembered how the last time Amy spoke about Chambers it sounded like she'd lay down her life for the man. Chambers worked for GENTEC now which meant perhaps Arix did have some form of contact and connection to Amy's network. "How deep into GENTEC are you?" He asked, the question obviously directed towards Sarah before he continued with his thought. "If you're close enough to Himura, you can let it known you're Investigating..." He paused for a moment, reluctant to say the words, "Your 'sister's' death. If it pays off he might help you and by proxy help us." He went back to typing sending Grace another file.
"In other words you may need to act as our mole." He looked up again taking another drink. "Should be fun right?"
Sarah sat down her empty beer, and thought carefully, "I'm one of the shareholders, my job has nothing to do with GENTEC and is everything to do with MEDTEC so it's the opposite end of the spectrum but I might be able to still pull some strings. It would be out of my way though given that I don't go by the name Grace, I may have to probe Arix in another way. I'll see how close I can get before I'm public enemy number one on their radar. If it comes down to it I'm sure we can just get Chambers to do the hard work in the end... Maybe he'll interrogate Arix like Anderson."
"I've got something for you guys," Grace said and the screen by the couch lit up, "not Jack or Leon but someone closer to our older contacts from 2005. A direct connection to old school Hellsing, Peter Fergenson."
"I could hope, maybe he'll do us the courtesy of recording it also." He replied to the Sarah. When Grace chimed in about the old contact he looked up to the display before raising an eyebrow. The name didn't ring any bells for him at all. He finished up transferring the rest of his files from his laptop to Grace before finally closing it and standing up from the couch, crushing the computer he received from Irvine in half. He moved back to the kitchen, tossing the crumbled laptop in a disposal and grabbing another beer, he needed to start planning things out himself. He walked over to a different display pulling up most of the files, specifically they were locations both past ones that still operate and potential new ones. Fortifications and armament details and specs.
"The old man who used to run Hellsings military," Alice asked.
"The same, you had a couple run ins with him I believe when you were running ops in 2006 for Hellsing," Grace replied.
"He's got to be ancient by now," said Alice, amused.
"He is close to his eighties but his age was undisclosed in Hellsing's database, when Alucard went down Fargason remained in America to help Roy Campbell maintain the shelf of America, he moved from D.C. with his daughter a year ago to live in New York to get away from the politics. Regardless, he may have some inside contacts with D.C. and if anything may be able to get us in touch with Campbells people at Foxhound," Grace informed.
"Foxhound...." He mumbled as he listened into their conversation. He remembered the reason he and Irvine had a disconnect, it was when the sniper had come to him a long time ago in Washington about a job offer from them. Irvine coming clean about who he was working for and what he did all those years ago was the reason the man was missing an arm and an eye now a days. "Kinneas..." He finally muttered out for a moment before reaching into his pocket and pulling out his phone. He tossed it behind him over to Alice. "He might help, he might not. Don't mention me."
Alice caught his phone, "alright, I'll see what I can dig up with Fargason. Sarah you've got Arix, what are you planning on doing Adam?"
The computer dinged, Grace spoke up, "got a message from someone with the user S.H... Alice I know you are alive I'm requesting a meeting with you or one of your people. I have valuable information on H.H. and B-U. I'm in New York around City Park currently, look for the White Rabbit it'll lead you to me..."
"Who wants to take that one," Alice asked the group.
He pointed to the map that was being displayed with various points on the map as he drank his beer. His ears perked up when he heard the message being read, "Jesus, that family can live through anything can't they." He stepped away from his work grabbing his revolver and K-bar from his vest and tucking them away. "I've got to go run and pick a few things up for future ops so I'll swing by and see exactly what she wants." He moved into the bathroom after grabbing his bag, closing the door behind him. They knew what he looked like now, a scraggly beard and hair down to his chin. In all honesty he looked like a mountain man more now a days than before. He pulled an electric shaver from his bag, plugged it in and went to work shaving his head down as close to the scalp as he could, the moment it was clean he began to let his regeneration take it's course until it got to a length and style he used to wear it. His then went about cleaning up his face leaving the stubble for now. He also changed, coming out of the bathroom in jeans and a printed black printed T-shirt.
He walked out looking like a newer yet youthful version of himself, hopefully it was enough to throw off any investigators or police. He headed towards the door, "Fifty buck this is a set up."
"If it is a set up, then we can cross that one off the list," Alice said, she was wearing a completely different outfit than before, now dressed in dark blue jeans and a black wife beater. She was pulling a leather jacket around her as he walked in and zipped it all the way up, "if I find anything out from Fargason I'll relay the information to Grace. Sarah already left, she said she was heading home for sleep but would dig up some things in the morning."
"Hey guys, we have another problem," Grace said, "there's a group that popped up a while ago calling themselves the Patriots, given the files, I know Krieger is definitely dead, but this group might be a remnant of them, its like Adam set something off there and they came out the woodwork. Their messages are all over the forums right now. I'll look into it and see if I can get any leads."
"Fair enough, even still..." He pulled out his wallet and grabbed a fifty dollar bill setting it onto the table when he got the news from Grace. He looked over to Alice, "Those guys are on their own. I'm already directly working with you and Sarah and that's pushing the level of people I want around when I really start up." He was out of the door before either of them could respond leaving with a simple; 'You two play nice now.' as he made his way towards city park.
Once Adam was out of the room and on his way Alice looked to Grace, "tell me everything you know about Amy's hidden lines. Everything, do not leave a single thing out, you can't protect her."
"Even still, I have my secrets," Grace replied.
"She had her secrets yes, but she is dead and you are not her," Alice said sternly.
Grace narrowed her eyes and then disappeared appearing once again at the armory near one of the consoles there, "Amy was in touch with most underground groups ranging from the Patriots all the way to the Kings and Reapers. I'll give you access to everything, but I will not help you from there."
He walked through the front door of the penthouse with his own paper bags full of goodies as well as the bag of files Sazon had given him. He lifted it on to the table; "Gift from your favorite little Sociopath." He also set down his own bags and pulled one specific one off to the side as he began pulling out containers of Chinese food, enough for the both of them. "Apparently Hija is mobile since Alucard attacked a Hive location a few hours ago." He grabbed his food and his bags walking over to the kitchen counter and setting up shop, pulling things out of his bags like a soldering iron and solder, as well as basic yard and garden things and various other chemicals. From the other bag were electronics and things like burner phones, bundles of wire and other things like that. He had enough things here to begin working on making his own improvised explosives arsenal. "Congrats by the way, you're up fifty dollars."
"Grace has given me connections that only Amy had before, took a little bit of time to go through them but I have a trace on Jack Napier now," Alice informed, she was sitting at the console by the armory but rotated her chair and got up grabbing the files off the counter and began thumbing threw them. Her original plan had fallen through, she was back to just a wife beater and her jeans for comfort. Alice sat them down and grabbed a box opening it, "haven't had New York Chinese in a while."
Grace had appeared and was looking at the files, "Alice, can you do me a favor, put these face up for me so I can start looking over what I did after I created... me? Fuck okay why is that so confusing to think about?"
Alice did as she was asked and separated the files then began looking through the black folder while she chowed down on the Lo Mein. Nothing caught her eye right away but she was seeing a pattern, "okay I get it, Sazon wants us to see the truth here. Hija Himura has never been met by any of us up until recently. He's just had people stand in for himself and claim to be him."
He started popping open all of the phones, working the circuit boards and electronics out of the casing as he waited for the soldering iron to heat up. He picked up his container of rice and bourbon chicken from the counter in front of him eating a bit of it, with a fork this time. "So what your saying is that just like everyone else he's been using body duplicates?" He shook his head lightly, turning from his stool and opening the fridge to grab a beer then closed the fridge. He opened it and washed down the food. He began mumbling to himself as he finally picked up the iron and solder and began piecing together wires onto circuit boards. Every once in a while when he was ready grabbing other things like fertilizers and containers for them. He took another sip of his beer and set down a finished explosive after he looked over it for a minute before going right back to work on another.
"I wouldn't say body duplicates, that's what I do. He's just flat out using anyone because no one actually knows what he looks like," Alice replied, "Sears used a body duplicate in the early 80s to continue the legacy of Big Boss while he took on the Government, but even still Big Boss hasn't been active for more than five years now."
Grace looked up at Alice, "Hey, speaking of which, Big Boss recruited Amy after Ocelot pretty much tortured the programming out of her, right? What about your own programming?"
Alice glanced over at Grace, "I'm safe, I broke free of that during a stint in Death Valley."
"I see," Grace said going back to the files.
"There's something else here," Alice said sliding a page over to Adam, it was mostly black bars but there were several key words written on the pages where Sazon had begun decoding the documents, "A-G-03."
It was written in red and circled at the bottom of the page. Grace appeared over Adams shoulder looking at the page, she finally spoke, "a third Grace project?"
He lifted the paper to the light, trying to see if perhaps there was some other way of seeing beyond the black bars. But unfortunately that wasn't the case, he saw what Alice was specifically talking about. Reading a mostly blacked out page was like trying to read small clippings of an event out of seven different news papers glued onto one sheet but if you knew how to use context clues you could piece together a lot of information... Unfortunately sometimes that wasn't always the case as in this instance where Adam could barely make heads or tales. "Maybe they're talking about Sarah." He thought about that before correcting himself, and handing the page back and going back into his work. "Grace is it possible to scan and decode the file?"
"Sarah would be A-G-02. If there's anyone who I'd trust to know the difference it would be Sazon Himura," Grace replied, "the context clues are all blacked out, the best I can do is use what she's written in the margins to maybe come up with a complete document. This page should have just been shredded it's like 30 words out of maybe 500 that you can read. Who even saves this?"
"They have to, it's part of how any organization works," Alice replied, "If there is a third Grace project then that spells trouble..."
Alice took another bite of her food and pushed it away, she was clearly frustrated, "fuck, dealing with this is giving me a headache."
