Hours had gone by since LJ left, there had been a void of silence after Jill confirmed she would help them. She was working on some documents and steadily tracking the movements of A-G-03. John was by the stove crouched again preparing dinner, he didn't know subtle as he was preparing an entire ham covering it in pineapples and honey. It was almost as if he was in Christmas dinner mode all the time. It didn't really matter because he was the one who left and came back with the food every time, which confused Grace, she didn't think he had any money on him but wasn't sure how he was getting the food and he wasn't saying how either, not like he really could. He would just eat the left overs anyways given his size.
Grace was spending her time at the window with a display opened that she was controlling reading a book, she had picked up where Amy had left off with a book that was on the nightstand next to her bed. It was a romance novel about a mercenary and a tavern woman. She wasn't sure if Amy ever finished but the only way she could finish it herself was to read it in digital. Things were strange for her living without a physical body, she missed the feeling of being alive... Then she felt bad for those thoughts knowing that Amy wasn't actually alive.
"There's a call for you Alice, from Sarah," Grace said.
Alice opened the line before it even rang on the console, "Hello?"
"Sorry I've been MIA," Sarah started, "it's been hell at work lately and Spenc- I mean Arix has been moving agents from across seas back to the city. I think he's planning something but I haven't been able to get in close to ask anything of him. Instead I've been digging up old contacts. I've got Zambi lieutenant Charlotte and Sherry Birkin, but I haven't really contacted them I just know their residences. Charlotte lives in the city and Birkin goes by the name Sherry Nicks now. She's in D.C. Big Boss reached out as well, he wants an audience soon."
"Have you been watching the news?"
"Of course I have, keep fireball under control, we don't need to become public enemy number one with everyone in America," Sarah said, "they're already pulling the military into this now so I'm expecting this to become ten times worse soon."
"Keep us in the loop," Alice said, "and come back to base soon, I have a lot to share with you."
"I bet you do," Sarah said with an almost sarcastic tone, "later Alice. Stay healthy."
The line went dark, Alice sighed, she was starting to feel useless sitting in the penthouse, she didn't like this idea of getting Valentine involved anymore than she liked the idea of just siting here and doing nothing.
