He swatted away the first attack that came towards him before delivering a precise chop which struck the nerve of the arm of his attacker causing the hand of the attacker to drop the plastic training knife they were holding. The man kicked it away from them before he quickly grabbed the arm and shoulder checked the attacker before sweeping the attacker’s legs out from under her. “It doesn’t matter how well rounded or devastating the style is.” Around the blonde man was a group full of people in the same fatigues he was wearing. It had just rained earlier which meant the fighting pit was now a mud pit. “When it comes to real life simple and direct is the most effective form of fighting. It doesn’t matter what abilities you have, what strengths and advantages you have because if you can’t control them they they’re useless to you.”
He helped the person up, and also picked up the training knife from the mud tossing it back to her. She got into a ready stance and the man closed the distance quickly before she could react. Dropping the side of his fist into her pelvic bone, kicking her leg out from under her and pushing her into the mud. She was one of his personal students and this happened all the time. The man wasn’t using any powers, in fact he usually allowed the new members to use their abilities and strengths against him but he never did against them. He was just a veteran of dealing with other B.O.W.s “There are going to be times where you won’t have access to your powers, other times some of you have powers so dangerous you can’t use them.” He explained helping the woman up and had her go sit down and rest.
“That’s where I come in. I teach you how to control your abilities first and for most, and from there I teach you basic combat and survival strategies for you to use. I’m the first rung on the ladder than every new person to KING has to go through.” He looked over at the group that was covered in mud and sweat, a lot of new faces… a lot of files to have to read tonight. He had already kicked them around to get a gage on temperaments and other things. “For six months your asses are mine. You’ll report here every morning from six am until noon. You’ll be cleared as a full member of KING after I decide you’re in enough control to not be a danger to any of us.”
He looked them all over, same shit different day, run the boot camp, train the new b.o.ws on how to control their shit. Same introduction over and over. Claire was off somewhere, something about meeting an old friend of hers which meant the house was going to be his for the most part. “Go home and get cleaned up. This is only going to be the first day.”
He heard the door unlock and open, he was on the couch leaning over a laptop like he usually was, reading B.O.W. files on the newest additions to KING who decided they didn’t want to take suppressants or undergo reversal surgery. He had a beer next to the laptop on the coffee table. “You’re home early.” He replied not even bothering to look up, “Yeah I wanted to change into something a little more comfortable before I go out and meet up with them.” That got his attention, “Them?” Claire nodded undressing after she closed the door behind her. The pair of them had worked together long enough to develop a level of comfort that she usually didn’t have with other people. Then again according to her, the man on the couch was a stick in the mud when it came to women so she didn’t really have any concern there. “Yeah, Leon came back and brought my brother and that Amy girl with them.” He only responded with an ‘Oh’ and went back to his work. She worked her way to the main bedroom leaving a trail of clothing in her wake.
“Yeah, I met them on the way home. That Amy chick is pretty cool, though honestly Chris is totally barking up the wrong tree.” He didn’t really reply. What was he going to say? She came out wearing a nice pair of jeans a reddish pink turtle neck shirt with the sleeves cut off. Her hair was styled differently and she had a light white coat on over her red shirt. “You should come with us Adam. We’re going to be at the only bar that can actually make decent drinks.” He held up his beer, “Gonna be busy. You have fun though.” He replied, she stopped and put her hand on her hips looking at him. “Do you ever socialize?” Adam set his beer down and scrolled the touch pad on his laptop. “Not if I can help it.” She shrugged, “I figured you’d want to catch up with Amy since you two haven’t seen each other in years. Oh well I’m going to find out all the embarrassing stories I can about you, Mr. I’m a badass loner.” She teased, Adam just shrugged. “Good luck.” She rolled her eyes and sighed, there was no point trying to make him do anything he didn’t want to do. She learned that after a while of working with him.
“Well, I’m going to be late. It’s been a while so I might try my luck tonight. You should try and get in contact with her though before it’s too late. They’re going to be heading west for a while after they rest and gear up.” He cocked his head still staring at the screen, “I might.” He replied, Claire rolled her eyes again, grabbing her nicer shoes and slipping them on. “Fine, I’ll tell you said hi.” Adam didn’t respond, she left and locked the door behind her.
Claire had taken the car, kind of annoying that he had to take a bus and walk the rest of the way. He was wearing really basic clothing, jeans, combat boots, and a gray long sleeved shirt under a hoodie with a fur lining. It was chillier now that the sun had gone down. But the crisp air helped clear his mind of work and missions. It had been forever since he’d actually been in any form of social environment besides training. He knew was bar Claire was talking about and he was standing in front of it, the Crowbar. He was hesitant for a moment letting a group pass him and go inside, eventually he followed in behind them, taking his hood down and looking around. He got a few odd looks from folks who recognized him. But he didn’t pay them any mind as he scanned the room and found Claire and them sitting at a table. Claire had seen him and he figured the group she was with was them as she glanced past the shoulders of a largely built man. Adam took a step forward but stopped as his pocket was buzzing, he pulled his phone out and rolled his eyes when he saw the Crown symbol on it. He knew Claire had seen him and was watching him. He held his hand up and shook his head as he put the phone to his ear and turned around, walking out of the bar. Claire went back to giving her full attention to the conversation the group as having.
