Sinners & Saints is set in a near future city, Saint City. People come to Saint City for an opportunity to become great. Regardless of their professions they're all the same, trying to become a legend in their field. Bounty Hunters, Demon Hunters, even your hot dog vendor on the side of the road. A city of fifty million working its own eco system, founded on the blood of the Seraphim Accord, host to violence, demons, strip clubs and the occasional church, it is here people come to live for a while before they die a legend.
"Yep," he said, "let me go run and grab one for you, pretty sure I've got your size by eye."
Richie left the room passing Tara on the way out who headed in and tossed a rolled up set of papers to Adam, it almost looked like a scroll given how it was wrapped up with a little ribbon to keep them together. She did the same to Amy.
"These are the coordinates of the entrance he used to leave, the time frame, last known locations, pictures of what he was wearing, everything," Tara said, "memorize them and burn them when you get a chance, I'd rather keep this on the low so no one else tries to hero this."
"Thank you," Amy said looking over the pages reading everything written down, she was fast to memorize things now and rarely forgot details which helped in the briefing phase of missions, anything she might miss XAG would remember for her or even recall the documents if she actually did miss something important.
Richie moved back into the room holding one of the shirts Adam asked for and handed it to him, it was charcoal black like the used to be and pretty heavy given the material this one was made of, "microfiber weave to protect against zombie bites, should be resistant to tearing as well."
"Dope." He replied as he was handed the shirt and felt the weight. He quickly traded shirts he was wearing then strapped the vest back onto himself before looking everything over. He took in as much information as possible, once he had most of what he needed memorized he followed tara's request crumpling the papers up and in a sudden flash they went up into a small fire which quickly burned the papers to ash. He dusted his hands off in a near by trash bin and programmed certain things into his phone. He took a deep breath and calmed himself down, focusing himself for the up coming 'mission'. Once he was ready he nodded to himself and made his way out of the armory.
Amy grabbed the FN strapping it up and slung it over her shoulder pulling it tight around her shoulder so it wouldn't slip off. She picked up the information papers and balled them up and smashed them between her palms releasing energy between both palms which literally vaporized the papers from existence. She double checked all of her things before heading out the door behind Adam. Tara followed along.
"You'll need to call me if you decide to come back here, I'll have a set of keys made for the two of you to get through the front door, if I don't answer just head through the side door and one of the guards will escort you inside," Tara said moving ahead of them so that she could unlock the front door for them, "if you find Birkin, do what you have to do. We're still looking into finding Sherri Birkin."
'Do what you have to do.' The one phrase that was the main rule of engagement when it came to OG wonderland missions. It was allowed a lot of people, especially of the core group survive this long. He simply nodded, Adam already had plans for when he met Birkin. The same man who sent a distress call or something weeks ago asking for safety in return for his surrender. Thankfully, it had been sent on a Wonderland channel that Birkin some how had access too, which made sense as to why he was such a pain to track down and get rid of back in the day. But having been sent on a Wonderland channel meant that when Adam intercepted the message it was unlikely that any of the Outer Haven members, even Big Boss got the message which meant the plan to execute Birkin wasn't changed.
He walked out the moment Tara unlocked the door, "Hey Tara, thanks." He finally spoke up, "Carlos would definitely be proud of what you've managed to do." With those words he started heading down the steps, getting his bearings for a moment only took a few seconds. As if he'd never really left this location nineteen years ago. He looked over to Amy hesitant to speak for a moment. "I plan on killing him when we find him. I hope you're okay with that."
Amy shrugged at him, "I've been waiting for an opportunity to kill him since I left the Nest. Ocelot could have probably been helpful here, had to pay him back for shooting my partner though. I think if we run into Birkin I'm going to drag him up to the top of a building and throw him off, even the score, maybe he wont die so he can suffer like I have for the last few months."
Her words sounded spiteful, she was clearly angry even while being so calm. She ran her hand over the back of her head feeling the deep scar back there hidden by her hair, that was a constant reminder of what she had gone through now a days, but also it was a constant reminder of what she had to overcome going forward. The sun had set by now, the stalkers would be out, XAG had prepared for this and Amy's right eye had become brighter now than before taking in more light allowing her to practically see as if it was day time. The AI made every human limitation she still had easier to overcome now, it also made it entirely impossible for her to live a normal life but it was still a step in the direction of becoming her again.
"All the way across the city again," Amy said, travelling was a bitch.
"That works." His reply was simple, it was good to know that she was at least on the same page as him. It was honestly his goal to just kill as many Umbrella members as he could however thinking about it right now he would probably just let Amy handle this considering it was Birkin's fault for Amy's current state. Adam walked down the street for a while looking around, making sure to keep his head on a swivel. "We could either take the rooftops." He said looking around before finding a car parked on the side of the street. "Or we can take that at least half way." He said pointing over to the car.
"What's with people running the roof tops nowadays," she asked, "the car would be much easier and faster to get there, and Umbrella can't just watch you guys run across the rooftops with their satellites like they always do."
Amy headed for the car, she pulled on the handle and it opened. Easy part out of the way, Amy slid into the car ripping the underside of the steering column off and then twisted a couple wires. She slid into the car fully and opened the center console taking out a coin and pressed it into the frontal slot of the starter and turned it hard snapping the restraints and the car started. Amy closed the door on her side and turned the knob on the radio turning the music off. She adjusted the rear view mirror so she could see in it and just waited for Adam to get in.
Adam approached the car and watched her work for a moment before finally going around to the other side and opening the door, "Do you even remember how to drive?" He asked finally climbing in and closing the door. The last time Amy and Adam ever talked about her learning to drive, Amy had told him how she learned to drive a tank and even how it ended up at the bottom of the hudson river. So naturally he was a little uneasy with her being behind the wheel.
"I've spent probably around two or three thousand hours on the tracks in D.C. racing sports cars on my free time," she said recalling how it became a bit of a hobby with her and Chris on their off time since the two of them didn't have much in common, she also remembered how bad she was at it at first, "a Corolla is cake compared to a SUPRA."
She threw it into drive and pulled out of the spot flooring it as she got onto the street and didn't left off the gas as the speed climbed higher and higher, she pulled the emergency break and turned hard dropping the speed of the car as she drifted around a corner and spun the steering wheel around to regain her headway, it was going to be a G-Force inducing ride the entire way by the way she was driving weaving between cars, part of her ability to do this was with AI guiding her at the proper time to shift lanes so she didn't have to turn her head, it was all predictions. It didn't take very long to even get onto the bridge between Staten and NYC and it was an even shorter drive to cross it.
At a certain point Adam had managed to snap the oh shit handle bar off during one of the lane shifts as he was being tossed side to side in his seat. She did realize that this thing was a just a small little car and not even armored like a humvee or anything right? Sometime before they got to the bridge Adam did the one thing he usually never does and that was put on his seat belt. He also tried his best not to piss himself as he braced himself against the dashboard of the car with his hands and the floor board with his feet. Eventually he gave up on the whole idea of bracing against the dashboard and just slid down into the seat slightly as he held onto the seat. This was a stupid idea. They were going to die well before they ever got to Birkin.
"Hmmm mmmmm," she was humming the tune of an old song and quietly singing it to herself when she remembered the words, the song was just stuck in her head but only the tune since it had been so long since she had actually heard it, "Remembering all the times you fought with me.... Hmmm hmmm hmm."
She cut a corner slipping between two cars hit the e-break and slid into the alley way like it was second hand nature, she floored it down the long alley before hitting the e-break again and slipped onto the street just ahead of a car and zipped through the neighborhood slipping down an empty dark street. She began to slow the car as they were getting closer to the entrance and she didn't want to draw too much attention this close to the site in case Birkin was watching or just Umbrella in general.
"I tried so hard and got so far, in the end it doesn't even matterrrrrrrrrrr."
There were multitudes of times when he thought they were going to smash into something or someone, especially in the alleyways that seemed big enough to just fit the car through in order to do all those things. He breathed a heavy sigh of relief when they finally slowed down in the area, He was NEVER, EVER, riding with her in a car again... especially if she was driving. He definitely wanted to get out of the car as soon as possible. He sat up finally to help scan the area and keep a look out for things. "Should be somewhere are here..." He muttered to himself as he was looking out the passenger side window.
"Let's park it, we're close enough to get there the rest of the way on our own," she said sliding the car into a quick parking spot between two cars on the street, Amy shimmied out the car closing it behind her and hopped up and down getting her footing back, one thing that happened to her a lot sitting or laying down now was a loss of sensation in her feet and legs, something she had to stretch out to get rid of or she would be walking on pins and needles for a minute.
"There's two access points nearby, we can either go through the large drain near the beach or we can go down the ladder," she stepped onto the side walk where two people were walking one of them staring at her mostly because the glow in her eye and Amy yelled, "BOO!"
The guy jumped and then laughed, "fuck why did that get me?"
"Dunno man," Amy said with a chuckle.
"Nice gun," he said continuing on with his girlfriend.
"Thanks," she said and looked at Adam and shrugged.
Adam crawled out of the car and he had never been so thankful in his life that his feet were on solid ground and he wasn't encased in a small little metal box on wheels. "If I were him I'd probably rig the entrance he's been spotted coming from." he finally spot up before watching the exchange between Amy and the random couple. When she looked over at him he shrugged and threw his hands up in a very 'I don't know, people are weird' type thing. Which honestly was the truth in most of his time since 2015 he had very much become a hermit whenever he wasn't running his bar, he spent most of his time at his house in the Arklay mountains. "So which ever entry point the information pointed to as the one he's been coming and going through is definitely the one we shouldn't take."
"So not the beach tunnel, the hatch then," she said and began walking behind where the couple were heading then began to cut across the street and near an alley where a metal hatch was placed behind a building. It looked like a service entrance more than a sewer entrance but it also seemed to be repurposed recently which is why it showed up on the data.
"What's behind door number one? We'll find out soon, I'm guessing it's a freak who I can't wait to fucking beat up, like the nerd he is honestly," she said with a high school sense of humor behind her words as she pulled the hatch open and then looked up at Adam, "ladies first she said."
There was a smile on her face as she held it up for him, the ladder went down for about thirty feet and would come into the sewer area, they'd be met with a room and a door which lead to the actual sewers and another door which was locked that lead to the buildings basement. From there it was a guessing game.
"Haha, that just NEVER get's old." He replied sarcastically to her ladies first comment as he started down the ladder, it looked about thirty feet and fuck climbing all the way down. He grabbed either side of the railing with his hands and hooked the sides of his boots on the sides of the ladder and just slid all the way down until he reached the floor of the room they were in. He was cautious though not to just hop off of the ladder as he now stood on the third to last rung of the ladder and flipped the light on his vest on and looked around to check the area to see if any traps had been laid down. Once he was satisfied that there weren't any traps he stepped off the ladder and whistled up to let her know it was safe to come down.
"Technically, it's like the first time I've ever said it," she said twisting down the ladder and let the hatch fall closed above her and slid down the ladder to the same level and stepped off the ladder moving across the room and pushed the door open to the sewer, "I have a feeling we're going to need to burn our clothes after this and scrub the fuck out of our bodies. This is where I'm going to miss the Umbrella decompression showers, those things got you so clean it fucking hurt."
She started heading down the corridor, nothing so far it just was a platform that lead to the main hub, another door which she pushed through lead them into the actual sewers now where they could hear the water moving along steadily. There were a lot of old corpses down here, mostly skeletons given how long ago many of them had been dead but a couple of them looked their way but were so heavily decomposed they couldn't move. They were remnants of T-Virus zombies from the outbreak, long lost and forgotten.
"Think he's even down here? I imagine he might want to distance himself from the Nest which is much further down here," she said to Adam.
Adam followed while looking around, it would definitely do them some good in case they might need to retrace their steps. Then again if memory served correctly a maze through the sewers usually lead to some bullshit path to an even bullshittier secret underground lab which usually always lead to a self destruct sequence and some secret way to get out of the base. "Who knows?" he replied, when they got to the actual sewer portion, his 1911 was out and waiting as soon as he spotted the corpses, they might not have been fresh but there was a strong likelihood that there were other, more newer things down here as well. "At this point it's the only lead we have." He was pretty much following Amy's lead since apparently she had a pretty good sense of where to go.
He neglected to inform her that Birkin had tried contacting Alice and Adam had intercepted the call for help deciding to ignore it entirely while he figured out what he wanted to do, whether to just let Hija have is way with him or to finish him off himself. But given the fact that this new information came to light was definitely his deciding factor. He didn't not tell her because he wanted to keep it secret, he just didn't feel like it was necessary information honestly.
They finally entered a clearing where the sewer tunnels began with water and Amy sighed then hopped into the water, thankfully it was only up to her thighs and not waist deep. She was going to find bath bombs tonight and soak as long as humanly possible in the tub until she smelled like flowers rather than shit.
"This is fucking cold," she said pointing to the water, "gear up, it smells worse the more you stir it up."
She listened ahead it didn't seem like anything was moving around down here but for all she knew they just weren't deep enough in to find the scary monsters. She imagined with Birkin he was stewing up all kinds of creepy fucks just to make this difficult to navigate and get to him, he was notorious for that and it would keep Umbrella off his back unless Hija sent a tyrant squadron after him and Birkin knew what the 1300s were after and he wasn't remotely close to top priority.
"So, I guess we've got a lot of catching up to do," Amy said, "I feel like I know you but I just have nothing here to remember any of it."
Adam dropped down after her, yup, it smelled absolutely terrible. Now he smelt like shit, literally. Though for him it wasn't that cold because he was regulating his body heat to keep him warm, it was literally the only reason he could actually get away with dressing as lightly as he did in the winter. He didn't sigh when Amy spoke, mostly because he was trying very very hard not to breath in that nasty ass smell. But he'd be lying out of his ass if he ever said he wasn't completely crushed by her words. Of course she'd lose all memory of him, the person who she literally stuck by at all times when they were kids. This was some sort of karmic justice, it just had to be... He finally spoke up, "I guess we do." It was really all he could do or even say at the moment.
He also wasn't in the mindset to carry on small talk with her, it didn't feel natural like it did before, for him it felt awkward, forced almost completely opposite to how they used to operate. So much so he essentially kept most of what he said based around some mission that had just fallen into their laps and was the literal epitome of just wing it. Eventually when they had a moment of silence he finally broke from just a moment. "I don't know how much you've been told about me." He finally started to talk, "But we knew each other since we were kids. At one point we were close enough friends that we hadn't seen each other in years and when we reunited it was like we never left each other's side." He gave out a small chuckle thinking back to when he had accidentally ran into her in the wastes of New York. "So much so, that a few people in Seven's Wonderland group thought we were a couple."
"I read the back story and the files," she said, "I know we've been in this from the start but you know how data is, it doesn't tell you who's close to who it just tells you the entire history as a group. My history doesn't really get recorded much until I joined KING and they started recording things, and Chambers I noticed he kept up with a lot of my records and files and wrote a couple dossiers on me."
She didn't have trouble seeing in the dark corridor at all, the problem was moving quickly. If they ran into something faster than them that was going to be a problem right away. She waded through the awful smelling water as quickly as possible. They were getting to a dead end but there was a platform up ahead which she pulled herself onto and offered a hand to help him up.
"Doesn't surprise me, Chambers thought we had something as well apparently. He said it made us a good team despite still turning you down for the SOS."
"Chambers was a part of KING, he was actually a Crown so it was part of his job to record and create dossiers on every B.O.W. that entered into Chicago. I only know that because he and I worked together multitudes of time when the KING Organization was still up and running." He stated, there was always a vow of secrecy between the other Crowns but that one mission they went on which saw the awakening of Arix Himura and Alexandra Anderson where they were both pinned down in a gun fight in the Wall the pair of them pretty much figured one another out by the way they were acting with each other as far as protection was concerned. It was one of not many of the deciding factors that put Adam on Chamber's good side.
He took her hand and climbed up onto the small platform. "I was never approached about his personal faction." He replied, the truth was he actually wasn't, but Chambers probably knew Adam enough by that point to know that he was tired of all of the bullshit, he just moved back to Raccoon City a year after signing the treaty which put an end to the tensions between occupied Chicago and the east coast U.S. "To be honest had I been I would've probably turned him down. I was just done by the time KING disbanded. I think he saw it too."
"His file called you, hot headed, bad tempered, and uncooperative. I kept putting in recommendations for you though, apparently I wanted you on the team when I was on it," she said moving across the solid ground now, her legs were soaked and she felt disgusting as she headed up some stairs which opened into a bridge and a control room on the other side. She headed across the bridge.
"I don't remember anything about Chambers unfortunately. I've been told he is dead now so he wont be around for me to ask him questions to jog my memories either," she said to him as she walked, "Alice on the other hand I remember clearly and I think there's a reason for that. I think I was designed to kill her... Again... Which doesn't matter because I let her go when I shot her in the stomach and was hunting her. XAG was pissed that I 'missed' the second shot."
"His file's not wrong for the most part if we're being completely honest." He replied he walked with her looking around, he'd totally have to burn these pants and boots and the shocks when he got out of here and had a fresh change of clothes. Maybe he'd just light himself on fire and grow new skin and hair that might also work too. "Yeah... in any case, at least until you get your memories back let's keep you and that XAG thing away from Alice for now. Especially in case something decides to trigger in you... Again." He jogged up the steps keeping pace with her and across the bridge. Usually around this time, this far into a mission one of the two of them would mention about how they were starving but given the small and just general grossness of the area any kind of appetite Adam might end up working up during missions or just in general was not here right now.
"There are no triggers," she told Adam, "Ocelot reconditioned me in 2021 and because of that they cannot activate anything and I cannot follow mission parameters because they don't exist anymore. Without Ocelot the Diamond Dogs aren't going to be able to recondition other BOWs so I imagine Big Boss isn't taking them on anymore."
At that moment she went silent hearing something farther down roar loudly and it was followed up with a series of other roars. It made her skin crawl whatever it was but it didn't stop her as she pushed through the door to the right and was back out into the sewer area again this time the tunnel went deep downward, like a descent into hell. She saw something move and dip into the water and then saw something else run toward them, she pulled the revolver off her hip and it kept going past them, she didn't shoot it because it literally was hauling ass out of here. The creature was pale white, bald and wearing shabby clothing.
"What the fuck was that," she asked, "human or..."
"Well I guess that makes things easier then..." He replied before he was cut off by the loud roars coming from ahead of them. Adam shut up fast and started focusing as he was now walking along side Amy instead of simply trailing her. They got to a point and he just froze over looking an entire long sewer filled with all sorts of biomass and corpses it was like a small maze of flesh and muscle and what looked like over grown organs. A few corpses were laying around with holes in their chest as well. If he listened carefully he could hear what sounded like the entire area was breathing, as well as a weird humming going on.
Things were moving under the surface of the water as he saw something ahead dip down under it, he too saw the thing run past them and also wasn't quick enough to be able to get a shot on it, though considering it completely ignored them Adam was thankful. "Unlikely considering all of this." He replied to her creature, "Might have been one of those Reaper things... but if it was, what the hell is down here that caused it to run away like that and ignore us entirely?
There was something down here worse than the reapers? That's when something in the room roared extremely loudly and there was more shuffling from under the water. Amy could barely make it out but there was a large figure at the other end lifting one of the G-adult out of the water by its biomass arm and clutched at the flesh on its left side ripping away at it to expose the eye beneath. It lunged its face into the eye and the four tentacles coming down from where its jaw would be latched onto the eye and it pulled back ripping it out and began to pull it into its mouth where it crushed it.
The creature threw the G-Adult aside and roared as more moved toward it and it began to man handle them on its own. It was then Amy got a better look at it as she moved closer to the crossing platform to see the large nearly seven foot creature, it looked similar to a reaper but was way more animal like almost like it had mutated from something else.
"What the fuck is that thing," Amy said loudly and holstered her pistol and pulled the FN off her shoulder and readied it.
"Whatever the fuck it is, it's feeding on those other things." Adam swiftly switched weapons, given that this thing was tanking a whole fuck ton of those other creatures he assumed he'd need a heavier weapon. "We need to figure out a way to kill it..." He was watching the altercation trying to make sure also that Amy didn't just unload on it, or do anything to give away their position. Adam wanted to see how it attacked and see if there was any real determinable weak points or spots which could be exploited just in case they encountered more of those things, and so far the thing was highly preoccupied with those other creatures.
One of the G-Adults latched onto its chest while it beat down another with its left fist, the 'Bloodsucker' practically ignored the G-Adult attached to it as it dragged it through the water and continued to pummel two of them into the floor splashing water and blood everywhere with its fists. It was ripping them apart with its sharp nails and extreme strength and finally it grabbed the arm of the G-Adult on its chest and squeezed smashing it then pulled it around slamming it into the wall. There was nothing left of the G-Adults and the creature roared loudly then began to moved to one of the large pipes and jumped up into it. Its foot steps could be heard as it moved away thumping loudly.
"Holy fuck," Amy said, "my heart is racing, that thing was more terrifying than just about anything I think I've seen and I'm still sure I can kill it, that's the crazy part."
It was like human instinct still, Amy and many other high level B.O.W.s had the capabilities to mow down many creatures and mutations but that didn't make them any less terrifying to look at given just how unnatural they may look or how human they seem. Human nature was something almost impossible to get rid of.
"We need to go past that massacre," Amy informed Adam, "and once we do we might run into more of all of this... I think it gets worse the farther down we go, I almost don't want to at this point, we might need a team to clear this shit out. On the other hand, Birkin might be farther down.... And I definitely want to feed him to his own creations."
Adam sat there completely stunned by what he saw, his chest felt heavy and he found himself holding his breath as he watched the entire thing. "That's.... definitely worse than anything we've gone against." Well almost, he was still absolutely sure that the NATAS Monster which managed to down Alucard for years upon years was still very much sitting pretty on the scariest B.O.W. ever list, but this thing was easily in the top 5 under it. He finally realized it was gone and let out a breath of relieve, the likelihood that this being a relatively clean mission in regards to difficulty had just dropped from about five percent to zero in that instance. He listened to Amy and as much as she was right there was just one thing Adam could say; "Birkin needs to die. It's that simple."
He knew, absolutely knew that Jill wanted Birkin alive, to pay for his crimes against Redfield's brother and Jill's old partner. He himself wanted revenge for what had happened to Amy, even though she was right here next to him, living, breathing, talking, in a weird way Birkin had managed to still take Amy away from him. But now? After that display, of both of those creatures, now things had changed. Birkin had gone insane... and not the type of way that Keto was, this was an even more dangerous loss of sanity. Something that ultimately wasn't going to be a pain in their neck, but it was going to spell out everyone's deaths if he wasn't taken care of here and now. It was that thought alone that was now driving Adam, Birkin had to die. This wasn't about revenge for him anymore, sure he'd still enjoy either killing him or watching him die, but it was a matter of simple security for everyone.
The... fear would be a good word to describe what Adam was feeling, the fear was being pushed down as best as he could now as he started to advance. "That's the mission." He replied coldly as if he was trying very hard to ignore the fact that he was going to walk into a death trap. "So we slaughter every thing that get's in our way. No matter what right?"
